Kobe Bryant might have left the world, but his legacy will live on. Ever since his horrific death in a helicopter crash, numerous athletes have paid tribute to Kobe. Recently, American striker Christen Press took her talents to Manchester United of the English FA Women’s Super League.

When the striker joined, her usual #23 was unavailable and hence she took #24 instead. Fans, who raced to grab the 31-year-old’s jerseys from the stores, were left bewildered. However, in a media conference, Press explained her decision.

“I’m not someone that holds too much luck or significance to a number. But when I wasn’t able to wear my normal number, I chose this with a little nod to Kobe [Bryant], because I’m an LA girl.”

This was a very heartwarming gesture from Press, and it proves how much Kobe affected lives in every sport. Press was a crucial part of 2019’s USA team that handed England a defeat in the World Cup semi-finals.

Hopefully, her veteran leadership will give the team a push in their quest for the title. As of now, the team is sitting in the fourth spot in the league with a win and defeat each. Moving ahead, the forward should bring a change in the team’s record.

Kobe was not only one of the best players of his generation, he was a winner. When he was drafted in 1996, the team was heading into a new direction after Magic Johnson’s decline. It was the same year the team signed superstar Shaquille O’Neal.

The gamble paid off as Kobe-Shaq became one of the most iconic duos of all-time. They won three championships during their time together and bought LA back to the championship stage.

Moreover, even after Shaq left the team due to constant feuds with Bryant, the latter led the team to two more titles in the late 2010s. Consequently, he solidified his legacy with five NBA championships under his belt.

Bryant retired back in 2016, where he dropped 60 points in his farewell game! He concluded his career with a memorable speech, leaving fans with “Mamba Out.”
