The Lakers are on the quest for something very special. While they will naturally look to repeat as champions this year, what if they are also aiming for more? What if LeBron James really wants to match Michael Jordan and get at least one three-peat to his name? That ties him up at six rings, and he can be the first player to get a three-peat since Shaq and Kobe.

To do this, the Lakers have added depth to their top-heavy team. This included signing Wesley Matthews, who last played for the Milwaukee Bucks. His father, Wesley Sr. is a two-time NBA Champion. He won his titles in 1987 and 1988. One of Wesley Sr.’s teammates has sent a message for the son who looks to follow his dad by winning in the purple and gold.

Klay Thompson‘s father, Mychal Thompson, took to Twitter to share that he hopes that Wesley Matthews ends up winning two rings with LA, mirroring his dad.

Mychal Thompson played alongside Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and of course Wesley Matthews Sr. in his days as a Laker. Hopefully, Jr. can match those two championships with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Lakers building for a dynasty

A dynasty is always hard when the best player on the team is about to turn 36 years old and is entering his 17th NBA season. But LeBron James is just built differently. His playmaking ability, along with everything else he can do, has made his team dangerous. What has made them even more dangerous is the addition of a young Anthony Davis who is just entering his prime.

This year’s roster already looks better than last season’s as the Lakers have added quality NBA players like Dennis Schroder, Marc Gasol, Montrezl Harrell, among others. There is a very real possibility that this team will hope to make it a run of three successive championships.

An older LeBron James is possibly even scarier because of how he uses his IQ to control the pace of the game. Every player that plays alongside LeBron gets better, so Matthews can expect a championship if the stars align.
