According to Michael Jordan’s former teammate BJ Armstrong, Tim Duncan was the second-best player after Michael Jordan.

Talking on ESPN’s First Take, Armstrong named Tim Duncan when the host asked him who was the better player after Jordan.

“Tim Duncan was a marvelous player. He played the game from the four, the five position. He was one of the unique players. Like a Michael Jordan, who could get to spaces on the court you couldn’t do anything about,” he said.

Armstrong felt Tim Duncan could have challenged Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls’ dominance in the 90s

Armstrong was the part of the Chicago Bulls side that attained unprecedented success in the 1990s. He was a part of the Bull’s first three-peat between 1991 and 1993. After Armstrong left, the Bulls achieved another three-peat, giving them six titles in eight years.

Duncan made his NBA debut in 1997. Armstrong felt that had Duncan played a generation earlier, he would have given a good run to Jordan and the Bulls dominance.

“The player in my mind that if I was to ever say would give us (Bulls) the most problems or give him (Michael Jordan) the most problems would be Tim Duncan,” he said.

“Technically speaking, Tim Duncan to me is a player that is really as unique a talent as I’ve seen in the NBA. And if you’re going to have a player that’s going to counter the talent like a Michael Jordan, who was almost like flawless technically in his game, Tim Duncan can do that.”

Armstrong praised both sides- offensive and defensive- of Duncan’s game. After his debut in 1997, Duncan went on to have a highly successful career. He played 19 seasons in the NBA- all for San Antonio Spurs. A 15-time All-Star, Duncan has won five Championships with a Spurs team that has never failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Spurs have retired his No. 21 jersey. For his achievements, Duncan has been honored with a place in the Basketball Hall of Fame. He will officially be a part of the Hall of Fame after a ceremony in August later this year.
