Giannis Antetokounmpo Issues an Apology to LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Others After Disturbing Twitter Hack

May 8, 2020 12:13 pm

Ever since the coronavirus crisis worsened in the US, the NBA players have been active in voicing out their concerns and their support regarding the situation. Likewise, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been doing his part, but recently he had a dreadful time on social media.

An unidentified person caused a lot of trouble to Giannis after hacking into his Twitter account. By further posting a series of derogatory and racist tweets, he immediately caught the attention of a lot of fans.

The identity of the person is yet unknown, but his insensitive act left many people affected. More than a dozen tweets appeared from Giannis’ account in the span of five minutes.

According to Katie DeLong of Milwaukee’s Fox 6 Now, the tweets began appearing on Antetokounmpo’s feed around 2:30 p.m. local time and were deleted within 15 minutes.

Giannis’ brother confirms the hacking of multiple accounts

Kostas Antetokounmpo, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, swiftly came to the defense of his older brother. Kostas confirmed that the hacker did not stop with Giannis’ twitter account alone.

His phone, email, twitter and bank accounts were all hacked. “He genuinely apologizes for everything that was tweeted and he will be back as soon as possible,” Kostas wrote on Twitter. “The things that were said by this hacker were extremely inappropriate and disgusting!”

The hacker also targeted LeBron James and the Golden State Warriors. The false news of Giannis contracting the coronavirus and his hate towards the Asian community went viral. A tweet of the Bucks star accusing his organization of racist remarks also made the rounds on social media for a brief amount of time.

Using expletive terms, he accused LeBron of hiring a hitman. The hacker then went on to post on behalf of Giannis that he is moving to the Warriors and defamed Steph Curry as well. Basically, he took over the account and posted a series of tweets from whatever came jumping from the back of his mind.

It is unsure if the hacker has a past beef with the Bucks star or if it was just a random act of cyber threat. Nonetheless, it is alarmingly increasing in today’s world. The Milwaukee Bucks are investigating the situation, as per Eric Woodyard of ESPN. Alex Saratsis, Giannis’ agent, verified that his client had no part to play in the incident.

Giannis Antetokounmpo apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the hacker

Giannis found the act extremely offensive and expressed his utter disappointment after getting his account back. “I was hacked and the situation is currently being investigated. The tweets and posts were extremely inappropriate and I am so disappointed and disgusted that somebody would say the terrible things that were said!”

The 25-year-old apologized to the people affected by the tweets. The hacker did not even spare late Kobe Bryant’s family. This act of the hacker enraged the fans and the Twitter community.

However, things are back to normal, now that Giannis has got back control of his social media. The league’s MVP primarily uses his account to spread positivity amid the ongoing crisis.
