A couple of weeks ago, it became known that one of the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson, wouldn’t show up with the Warriors in the 2020-21 season. This only implied that the new starting five of the GSW franchise will be at a disadvantage.

Having said that, the starting line-up for the Warriors still seems quite promising. Out of them, there is one name that gets the least attention and it is Andrew Wiggins. He joined the GSW organization only last year and became an active part of their 15-50 debacle. Fast forward to the present day, and he has more to be excited about than worried.

What is Andrew Wiggins super-excited for?

Last year, Stephen Curry could play just five games before getting ruled out because of his left-hand injury. This meant that Andrew could play alongside his idol in just one game. In that one game, Curry played for 27 minutes to put 23 points on the board, while Wiggins dropped a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. They lost that game by an 8-point margin against the Raptors, but it gave a young Wiggins an idea of how great it was to share the court with Curry.

In a recent interview, Wiggins said, “I’m very excited having Steph Curry back. He’s someone that can do everything for us. Once he steps on the floor, just his presence is a game-changer. Him on the floor is a game-changer. Just getting a chance to play alongside him and learning, seeing how he does certain stuff, that’s most important.”

What role will Wiggins play for the Warriors’ squad?

The 25-year-old All-rookie member was the first overall pick of 2014. The Warriors acquired him from the Minnesota Timberwolves while giving away D’Angelo Russell in 2019-20 mid-season. The 6’8” forward could play just 12 games for the Warriors, wherein he averaged 19.4 points at 45.7% FG.

Wiggins’ jumping ability is extraordinary, and that helps him defend the rim very efficiently. His big-man physique also helps him absorb brutal physical contact when guarding inside the lane. He still has to improvise on his three-point shooting, but that can be done with Curry as his mentor.

The Warriors will play their preseason opener against the Nuggets, and fans will hope that these two will play alongside.
