The New York Knicks are one of the worst run franchises in the NBA. After missing out on the playoffs yet again, this is their seventh consecutive season without a postseason appearance. They fired former head coach David Fizdale midway last season after barely a year and a half in charge. Since then, assistant coach Mike Miller has stepped in as the interim head coach.
Earlier today, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Knicks have zeroed in on their head coach targets, Mike Brown. They had previously interviewed him for the job in 2018 but did not select him.

Mike Brown has an experience of 23 years in coaching in the NBA. Currently, he is an associate head coach with the Golden State Warriors. His most notable tenure was with Cleveland Cavaliers when he was in charge from 2005 to 2010. It was also his first head coach position after three stints as an assistant.

With an emerging superstar in his side, he led the team to their first-ever NBA Finals in 2007. However, they got swept in the Finals by the much more experienced San Antonio Spurs. Brown had a stellar season again in 2009 when he led the Cavs to a 66-16 record in the regular season. It was the best record in franchise history and Brown went on to win Coach of the Year that season.

During his time at the Warriors, Brown has been a part of two title-winning teams in 2017 and 2018. He had also mentioned previously that it would be tough for him to leave Golden State, and would only do so if the right opportunity popped up. With the experience of coaching the biggest names in the NBA now like Steph Curry and LeBron James, Brown certainly has a lot to offer to the Knicks.

For the Knicks, it is a battle to be relevant again, for the right reasons. Due to their owner James Dolan, recently it has been just the opposite. With their focus now on the 2020-21 season, the Knicks should be looking to play it smart in Free Agency, and not go for panic signings like last season. They will have a high lottery pick again but it remains to see if they can make the most out of it.
