The Golden State Warriors met with an agonizing obstacle before the start of their 2020-21 NBA campaign. It came in the form of Klay Thompson’s injury, which proved to be a major disappointment. But the team’s owner Joe Lacob wants to brush off the negatives. He believes the Warriors are still championship contenders.
Klay Thompson was slated to return after missing the entire 2019-20 season due to a torn left ACL. However, he was treated to more misery during a recent workout after he ruptured his right Achilles Tendon.
Extensive MRI scans confirmed the severity of the rupture, and Klay Thompson will have to sit out one more season before he can return to competitive action. This deters the hopes of the 3x NBA champion and the entire Warriors’ camp as well. But owner Joe Lacob remains positive amid these testing times.

“I still think we’re going to be a good team,” Lacob told ‘The Athletic’s’ Tim Kawakami. “The goal is to make the playoffs, obviously finish as high as we can, but make the playoffs, be competitive.”

“Obviously, if Klay were here, I could sit here and be more confident about where I thought we might get to. I still think we can be very, very good,” Lacob added.
Of course, having a player like Klay Thompson on the roster can boost any team’s chances. The Warriors in recent years have thrived under the ‘Splash Brothers,’ but fans will only get to see Steph Curry showcasing his talents in the upcoming season.

Golden State Warriors’ owner has complete faith in the team to deliver
Now that it’s been confirmed that Klay Thompson will not feature for a whole season, what’s next for the Warriors? Well, they still have a talented roster at their disposal, even without a player who has averaged 20.0+ points for the last five years.
Joe Lacob named the two best players who can still carry the Golden State Warriors to massive heights in light of Klay’s unfortunate absence. “We do happen to have one of the greatest players in the world in Steph Curry. Draymond Green is an ultimate winner, he’s won three championships,” Lacob mentioned.

Furthermore, Lacob moved on to praise 2014’s #1 Draft pick, Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors acquired him early in the year, but he’s yet to showcase his complete potential. “He [Wiggins] is in a very good situation now. And I think he’s going to be a lot better than people think,” said Lacob about Wiggins.

“I think we still have a very good team. We’ve got some holes; we’ve got some work to do and we’ll see what happens,” Lacob added.
