The Golden State Warriors kicked off their preseason with a high. They defeated the WC finalists 107-105. Players like Jordan Poole and Kent Bazemore stood out among other performers. However, apart from this particular win, what gained attention was rookie James Wiseman’s practice performance.

The overall 2nd pick is already showing signs of greatness with his super-quick feet and power dunks. Coach Steve Kerr appeared very satisfied with the youngster’s performance in the practice. James also received some on-court coaching from veteran Draymond Green.

On Monday, James practiced alongside the Warriors’ legends who are credited for changing the face of the NBA. In a two-team drill, coach Steve kept a keen eye on Wiseman who has a lot to learn in limited time. Both Draymond Green and Wiseman played in the same team, and that’s where the rookie took his notes from.

In an interview, James happily said, “Best moment was screening for Steph. He made that three, which was dope. The mistake that I made was I missed [indiscernible]… I made mistakes because I was giving my full energy out there, just trying to use my length and my athleticism.”

Both Wiseman and Green tested positive for COVID a couple of weeks ago. Coincidentally, they began to practice on the same day. But as a consequence, they’ll miss the first preseason game against Sacramento Kings before joining for the next and final one.

Coach Kerr found a hint of greatness in Wiseman’s natural pick-and-roll ability and how his movement seemed energy-packed. The legendary coach added, “He seems to be picking up the plays pretty quickly. I’m excited about seeing him get more work under his belt so he can make bigger strides, but today was a really good stride.”

Having stated that, it was Draymond who also gave some constructive feedback for the young gun. He found James out-of-position in defense, and he knows how their good defense will help Stephen Curry play better offense. Hence, that becomes one of the many other aspects where the rising star will have to work on. However, it is understandable for him to make a few mistakes, given he has been away from playing for a year now. Also, chances are strong his debut in the regular games can be a little delayed because the team would first wish to warm him up before his big day on the floor.
