“Hold On To It”: Lakers’ Danny Green Refuses to Accept His NBA Championship Ring in the Bubble For a Special Reason

Los Angeles Lakers guard Danny Green is one of the most accomplished playoff performers of the last decade. He won rings with the San Antonio Spurs before winning another one with the Toronto Raptors. Green was supposed to receive his ring when the Lakers faced Toronto in Canada, but that fixture never happened. The COVID pandemic rendered the season moot, and the Lakers-Raptors matchup was shifted to the bubble.
The match ended with glory for the Raptors, who’s suffocating defense held the Lakers to under a hundred points in a dominant win. Green is still awaiting the ring, however, as there was no ceremony for him in the bubble. Green himself has spoken about this on his Inside The Green Room podcast. He said that the Raptors had asked him if he wanted a small ceremony in the bubble and get a real ceremony later. Green, and Lakers coach Phil Handy who was also with the Raptors last year, have decided to wait until there can be crowds to get their rings in front of the Toronto faithful.
“I’d rather do it in front of the fans in the city where I played and spent a great year… You can hold onto it, I’m in no rush,” Green said.

Los Angeles Lakers bringing Danny Green another championship?
Green is the perfect reliable shooting guard for any championship team. He is excellent as a defender and one of the more reliable corner shooters in the league. He has used these skills to become a multiple-time NBA Champion and looks to win a third ring on a third team with the Lakers. However, his performances this season have been underwhelming. He is averaging 8.3 points a game and is expected to be the anchor for the primary Lakers lineup for end-of-game situations.

Green has struggled to hit open shots in the bubble. Despite LeBron James giving him great looks, Green has missed a lot of important shots. His ineffective play in their latest fixture against the Raptors was one of the many things that went wrong with the team. Nonetheless, Green has a reputation for elevating his game in the play-offs. That will be the Lakers hope if they want a ring this year.
