“I Want You Guys to Pray”: Karl Malone Breaks Tragic News for Utah Jazz Fans

Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone revealed their former coach Jerry Sloan hasn’t been doing well. He joined his teammate at Utah John Stockton and a few other NBA Hall of Famers in a show on Sunday.
Ahmad Rashad hosted the show streaming a Zoom call on Twitter. Apart from Karl Malone and John Stockton, it featured David Robinson, Grant Hill, Reggie Miller, Muggsy Bogues, Clyde Drexler, Dell Curry, Dominique Wilkins, Mitch Richmond, Dikembe Mutombo, Charles Barkley, Gary Payton, Robert Horry, Tim Hardaway, Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O’Neal, Glen Rice, Shawn Kemp, Ron Harper, and Detlef Schrempf.
The former superstars shared stories throughout the session. At the end, Malone told about Sloan not doing well and asked for prayers from his fellow players.

“I need to say this because I know that (John) Stockton and I have been talking a lot recently,” Malone said. “Coach (Jerry) Sloan is not doing well, so I want you guys to pray for coach Sloan.”

Jerry Sloan led Utah Jazz to 15 consecutive playoffs

Sloan established himself among the top coaches in the NBA, working with Utah Jazz for 26 years (including three years as the assistant coach). He was initially a player in the league, featuring for Chicago Bulls between 1966 and 1976.
He started coaching soon after the end of his playing career. Sloan then worked as the assistant coach for the Bulls in 1978 before becoming the head coach in 1979. He stayed with the Bulls till 1982. In 1985, he became the assistant coach of Utah Jazz.

Sloan later became the head coach of Jazz in 1988, staying with them for a record 23 years. He led them to 15 consecutive playoff appearances between 1989 and 2003. It included two consecutive finals appearances in 1997 and 1998, only to get beaten by the Bulls on both occasions.

He has 1223 regular-season wins in his long career and is one of only two coaches to have won a 1000 games with a single club. Unfortunately, Sloan’s career came to an end without any title to his name.
Malone revealed on Sunday that he needs prayers to get well. However, his exact situation is unclear as the former NBA MVP did not give any further information about it.
