Chris Paul is one of the best point guards in the NBA. In his 13 seasons in the NBA, he has played with multiple teams and has had many individual accolades.

There is one glaring miss from CP3‘s accolades, though. He hasn’t won a NBA championship in his career. The closest he had reached to the championship was the 2017-18 season, where the Houston Rockets led by CP3 and James Harden lost to the Golden State Warriors in Western Conference finals.

In his recent appearance at ex teammate JJ Reddick’s podcast, Paul described how he felt about the same. He said, “That was probably one of the hardest things to deal with, especially with the time, I mean so much stuff changes when you lose like that.”

He added, “We went up 3-2 so we went to Golden State and I remember I couldn’t play game six like I got nauseous on the court before the jump ball.

“I seriously got nauseous and dean (trainer) took me to the bathroom cause I had crazy anxiety. I never get that type of anxiety when I am playing, but it’s that control thing like how am I gonna be sitting out here and can’t affect this game.”

He added, “We lost that game six; we had a lead in that one too, but lost that one. In game seven, we lost that one. I was in a dark place. For a few weeks I was in a dark place.”

The Rockets had taken a 3-2 lead against the Warriors. By the end of the fifth game, Paul had suffered from an injury and missed the next two games. This changed the whole complexion of the series, which now favored the Warriors. Houston couldn’t contain the Dubs who became the Conference champions and also won their second NBA championship in a row.

Can Chris Paul win a NBA championship?

Paul has played in some of the best teams in the NBA. Every time he makes it to playoffs something, or the other happens with him.  Sometimes he suffers from an injury during crucial games, and in other cases his co-star misses crucial playoff games with an injury.

With the Houston Rockets, it looked like things would be different. If not for the injury to Chris Paul, they could have been the first team to clinch a series against the healthy Warriors team of Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Since then he hasn’t been in a championship contending team. With his trade to OKC Thunder, everyone counted him out. To everyone’s surprise, Paul and the Thunder made it to the playoffs. They even came very close to defeat the Rockets in seven games.

Now Paul sees himself in a Phoenix Suns team, hopeful of making it to the playoffs. With Paul, Booker, Ayton and Co, the Suns, can surely make it to the playoffs. But challenging for the championship this season might not be possible.

This season will be crucial for players like Ayton who are yet to live up to their potential. If he does, the Suns can be serious contenders within the next two seasons.

CP3 is entering the twilight of his career. If the Suns can win the championship within the next 2-3 seasons, it will be the perfect send off for a legend of the game.
