The New York Knicks were arguably one of the best teams in the 90s NBA era. They were a special side. One can’t forget the rivalry between the Miami Heat and the Knicks that evolved in the dying years of the decade. Patrick Ewing and his team made heads turn with their explosiveness and their on-court physicality.

The Knicks weren’t messing around when it came to outlasting their opponents on the court. The team never backed down and their unity when coming up against tough opponents was a treat to watch.

The Knicks came close to winning the title twice under Patrick Ewing’s leadership. In 1994, they came into the league with the perfect mindset knowing that Michael Jordan was not there to stop them anymore. But they fell at the hands of Hakeem ‘The Dream’ Olajuwon, who put up inspiring crunch time displays in Games 6 and 7 of the NBA Finals.

Five years later, Ewing and the Knicks got another shot at the title, this time coming up against a fiery San Antonio side. The Spurs made easy work of a worn-down New York team, who had no answer to the brilliance of Tim Duncan and David Robinson. Patrick Ewing retired after playing the following year, ending his 15-year journey with the Knicks. In a recent chat with Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post, Ewing briefed about his final days with the team.

The millennium year turned out to be Ewing’s final season with the Knicks. Co-incidentally the team’s best player for the past 15-years retired at the beginning of a millennium to mark the dawn of a new era. The Knicks’ first pick of the 1985 draft didn’t particularly enjoy his final years with the team.

Mainly barred by injuries, Patrick Ewing’s final seasons didn’t bring out a deserved finish to a legendary career. He still holds the most points scored in the league by a Knicks player. Speaking to NY Post, he expressed the sorrow over his final days playing with the team.

We all live in the moment, but taking a part of it with us as we step into the future is essential for any person. For Ewing, in his last appearance, it never seemed to have hit him hard during the ball game. He went ahead with it, got it done, and exited the team. Now he feels he should’ve cherished it more than ever.
