George Floyd’s alleged homicide has lead to protests across the country. Citizens have stepped out to protest against racism and police brutality which is prevalent in the country. Many NBA players like LeBron James and Kyle Kuzma have been using their social media to talk about it while others like Steph Curry and Jaylen Brown have been out on the streets.

Curry has always been an activist but he isn’t too loud about it. He has worked towards providing clean water, suggesting to boycott the customary NBA champion White House visit because of the racist Donald Trump, and now protesting on the streets. This protest he attended in Oakland was organized by one of his teammates, Juan Toscano-Anderson.

Toscano-Anderson, who signed with the Warriors in February, is a lifelong Oakland resident. After that protest on June 3rd, he is organizing one again. It was attended by Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and a couple of other teammates too. After the protest, while speaking to 95.7 The Game, Toscano-Anderson said, “If Steph asked me to run through a wall for him, I will now. He showed me he’s got my back and I’ve got his back.”

The protest was called “Walking In Unity” and it was just a peaceful yet powerful protest. Many people from the Bay Area were in attendance as they marched to show their disapproval against the racism and injustice faced by minorities in the country.

“It meant a lot just because I know someone in my work profession has my back,” Toscano-Anderson said. “I know it’s tough when you in a position like Steph’s, I don’t want to say it’s hard but it’s a thin line you have to watch where you walk. It definitely made me feel good to see somebody of his caliber and his notoriety here. It’s a pretty cool feeling.”

After going undrafted in 2015, after almost five years, Toscano-Anderson made it to the NBA. He was with the Santa-Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G-League team, since 2018. Since the NBA is returning with just 22 teams, the bottom-placed Warriors didn’t make the cut. So for the first time since 2012, Steph Curry won’t be a part of the NBA Playoffs.
