Luka Doncic started off in the NBA as a sneaker free agent. The Slovenian switched between other players’ signature edition sneakers before finally signing a deal with the Jordan brand in December 2019. After a brilliant sophomore season, the 21-year-old is set to receive a special edition of the Air Jordan 35.
Winning Rookie of the Year massively fueled Luka Doncic to shine in 2020. He absolutely stole the show during the regular season with his knack for triple-doubles. He often switched between the Jordan Jumpman Diamonds and React Elevations as his regulars.
But now, the brand has announced that the Jordan 35’s have a special “Luka” edition, which is expected to roll out from May 2021, in Mavericks’ colors. It might just be too early after all for Doncic to receive his signature shoe deal with a brand.
Joel Embiid became the latest player to do so, but for now, the Mavericks star gets a special edition of the Air Jordan 35. The Slovenian talent is one among the list of stars that represent the Jordan brand.
Pelicans star Zion Williamson too, has a sneaker deal and his Air Jordan 34 PE special edition ‘Noah’ boasts an attractive colorway. A lot of youngsters have signed with the Jordan brand but only a few have had signature ones like Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul.
Luka Doncic has already amassed several records in just his second NBA season. He gained high recognition in 2020 when he finished fourth in the MVP voting, ahead of players like Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis.
The 21-year-old shattered a massive record, as LeBron James is no longer the youngest to finish in the Top 5 chart. James finished second in the 2006 MVP race behind Steve Nash. Moreover, Luka Doncic also became the fourth player to finish in the Top 4 of the MIP and MVP voting in the same season.
Luka Doncic dominates on the court with his impeccable abilities. He can fool the defense with his quick drives and intelligent passes or hurt them even more with effortless long-range shooting.
One shouldn’t forget that Luka Doncic finished with 17 triple-doubles in his sophomore season. This number does not rank as the most in a single year, but Doncic did it at 21-years-168 days, and no one has done it at a younger age.
This season has already given us glimpses of what Luka Doncic can do on the court. His buzzer-beaters are a thing of excitement and the whole package – his basketball IQ is off the charts! Doncic, alongside Giannis Anteotkounmpo, is the future face of the NBA.
