During the 2019 Free Agency, Kevin Durant went to Brooklyn instead of New York. After being linked to the Knicks throughout the season, he surprised everyone when he chose the Nets over them.

Recently, Durant revealed that he chose the Nets because they were “chill, on the low, all black, everything quiet.” But on ESPN’s The Jump, former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins refused to believe that was the reason. He said, “That’s BS. Talking about chill, laid back under the radar. Not the same KD that speaks out in comments to all the media people when somebody talks about you.”

Perkins believes Kevin Durant would have reignited the Knicks

Later, Perkins also said that Durant moving to the Knicks would have rescued the franchise. They haven’t been in the Playoffs since 2013 and haven’t won a title since 1973. So they really needed the Durant.

“I thought that KD going to New York (Knicks) would have been great for the game of basketball,” Perkins said. “It would have been great not only for the organization because they’ve been down in the dumps for so long, but it would have bee great for the basketball world in general.”

“When you look at Kevin Durant, when he’s healthy, he’s arguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest players on the planet. Him going to the Knicks would have brought that life back to Madison Square Garden. Brought that energy and feel back to New York. Even with him being in Brooklyn, it still doesn’t have that feeling like when you go to Madison Square Garden.”

The Knicks have been longing for a superstar ever since Carmelo Anthony left them in 2017. They have been linked to stars every offseason but are unable to pull it off in the end. In 2015, they drafted a potential star in Kristaps Porzingis, but then traded him away to the Mavericks last season.

Heading into this upcoming Free Agency, the Knicks will hope to turn things around. There aren’t any big hitters available, but they will hope to build a team that will at least be able to fight for a playoff spot.
