Winning the 2020 NBA championship marked the 17th title for the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James and Anthony Davis were the leaders for the team, but head coach Frank Vogel played a crucial role as well.

Lakers guard Alex Caruso recently joined the JJ Reddick Podcast, where he discussed the importance of Vogel for the purple and gold.
“I think our whole staff together, but specially Frank man. So I know nothing other than watching him coach against Bron when he was in Indiana… I didn’t know much about him but then after about a month of being with him, I was like ‘He’s gonna have us prepared’.

“Even [Rajon] Rondo would joke with me sometimes like in our 40-minute meetings before games when you go over the scouting report one final time… He’s got like power points and it’s like bulleted… Frank’s really good at just diving into the work and being prepared. You are gonna have the most information, and it’s going to be accurate.
“I think that’s what he’s really good at. He did a great job at gelling in too… He wasn’t hesitant to shed his ego and let the assistants run a meeting or Bron or Rondo speaking up at a session. That build the trust that you need to win at high level.”

Without a doubt, Vogel was the mastermind behind the Lakers’ success. When a team has two superstars like James and Davis, the head coach’s job is never easy. He has to manage their egos and make strategies for the team simultaneously. Frank completed that task perfectly for the purple and gold.

Next season, LA will have an opportunity to go for a repeat. If the dynamic duo of James and Davis can follow up their tremendous 2020 championship run, it will make the job a lot easier for the team. They both are easily top five players in the league, and this was just their first season together.
