The world is full of opinions. People hardly refrain from giving their take on an issue, unless they have to pay for it. As a result, celebrities or athletes are endlessly mocked for their comments against a certain issue or a subject, especially political. About two years ago, LeBron James and Kevin Durant were slammed by a journalist for their comments against Donald Trump.

Laura Ingraham criticized LeBron James for speaking out

Laura Ingraham of the Fox News unapologetically criticized NBA stars LeBron James and Kevin Durant for their concerns by rudely asking them to “shut up and dribble.” While all things were said and done, it was noted that Ingraham did not like athletes voicing out their opinions in matters of national interest.

However, when Drew Brees recently made his comments on people kneeling for the national anthem, Ingraham was all for it. She publicly supported his statement and mentioned it was his right to voice his concern. It was not long until LeBron saw this and gave it back to the journalist. He shared a video posted by Complex Sports, which highlights the contrast of her comments against James and Brees.

LeBron’s caption called out Ingraham for discriminating against him and KD. He even added her views against Brees when he too had made a comment of a similar context. Moreover, this outburst irked 56-year-old Ingraham, and she responded to it on Thursday.

Ingraham, who has her own chat show on Fox News called ‘The Ingraham Angle,’ could not resist from explaining her stand over the issue. She wanted to make herself clear as to why she supported Drew Brees and not LeBron James. Here’s what Ingraham said in her defense, as transcribed by Mike Rosenstein of NJ.com

My defense of Brees’ led to an online chorus of people comparing those comments to previous comments I had made to Lebron James. At the time, James had said that Trump “really doesn’t give an “eff” about the people. Well, without dwelling on the nuance between the two instances, let me be very clear about what I believe: We are all children of God, regardless of our racial or political differences and therefore must be treated equally,” Ingraham began.

“Every American, every-American has the God-given right to speak his mind on any issue. I think in order to heal and shed light on gross injustices, our country needs more dialogue, not less,” she continued. “And we need more respect, less retribution. Emotions are hot right now and unfortunately, in times like these, we often find ourselves, I know it’s easy to do, talking past each other.

“Right now Americans, I think most of them, are looking for reconciliation. That means politicians, police, and even cultural figures all working together. All of us. This is a moment when we should be listening and learning. All of us.”

As Ingraham gave a detailed response as to why it is important that we all need to stay together at the moment, she never specifically explained why LeBron just had to “shut up and dribble,” and do nothing else. Tackling a problem is something we’ve all witnessed. But completely avoiding the core of it and responding in an utterly different manner is puzzling.
