The worsening situation of the COVID-19 crisis has put a full-stop to all crowd gathering events. In order to keep up with the social distancing orders, all schools had to cancel their graduation ceremonies.

James, who graduated from St. Vincent-St. Mary high School, was earlier approached by XQ institute. They initially came to enquire about his interest in a unique graduation ceremony for the high-schoolers. An estimated 3 million students will graduate this year, James and XQ have come up with a special plan for his young fans.

LeBron James to host a virtual graduation ceremony

XQ first came to LeBron to ask for his appearance on a virtual ceremony. But Bron’s interest in the event led to him producing it as well. Now, his SpringHill production company, along with Done+Dusted is taking care of the production process.  The event, named “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020,” will broadcast on television and online platforms.

James, in a recent interview with ESPN, said, “It’s been a hard few months for all of us, but I especially really feel for the senior class of 2020.” The end of high school and graduation was one of the best memories of my life. It’s not fair. Every graduating senior needs to know how much we feel for them and hopefully this can help, even a little. This class is going to be special because they know in a real way how to persevere.”

The program, apart from featuring the four-time MVP, will also host a variety of stars. Soccer star Megan Rapinoe, Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, and musicians Pharrell Williams, the Jonas Brothers, and Bad Bunny will all be part of the broadcast, which will stream across the various platforms, commercial-free, throughout the United States of America.

LeBron James, who is majorly taking care of production work, announced the event on Instagram. He promoted the event by posting a high school photo of him from when he graduated. “These students have worked incredibly hard for this, and there’s no way we can let that go unrecognized. While this won’t be the graduation experience they were supposed to get, we hope we can still give them something special because they deserve it.”
