Anthony Davis is finally an NBA Champion. After spending years struggling in the New Orleans Pelicans, AD has become a champion in his first year with LA. However, there were remnants of those old Pelicans teams on the 2020 Lakers championship squad. This starts with point guard Rajon Rondo, who was a crucial part of the few playoff runs AD has in NOLA.

A forgotten member of this Lakers roster was DeMarcus ‘Boogie” Cousins. Boogie was cut by the Lakers prior to the pandemic because he was not fit to play. Markieff Morris took his spot on the Lakers team and ended up playing big minutes for the team in the playoffs.

Davis face-timed Cousins upon the Lakers championship win. Boogie was on the sidelines for all pre-bubble Laker games and his camaraderie with AD hasn’t died.

Whether this was an attempt to recruit Boogie back to the Lakers next season is unclear. However, a former all-star like Boogie should be back in the league after his latest leg of injuries. Boogie should be given a chance at redemption. Davis may be key in making sure it happens in LA again.

Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins weren’t just teammates during their time with the Pelicans. They were both all-star calibre players forming a twin-tower lineup that we hadn’t seen in a while. However, as the NBA started becoming more guard-oriented, AD and Boogie couldn’t succeed in the cut-throat Western Conference.

Boogie would eventually leave the Pelicans and become a Golden State Warrior. He joined the Lakers this season, along with AD who was traded from the Pelicans. Cousins and his lack of availability meant that the pair haven’t shared a court in Laker colours just yet. But with Boogie still looking to make his way back into the league, the now defending champions may be a nice option. Especially with AD still there and his familiarity with the situation.

This may just be a perfect fit.
