The Orlando Bubble was unforgiving, and it demanded a willingness to sacrifice everything to thrive for the love of the game. The Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers came out on top, and the fans were treated with a deep NBA Finals.
For the final two teams, the very demanding bubble experience lasted for about 95 days. But the 22 teams invited to the bubble all had a tiring season, especially the ones that qualified for the playoffs. Now, the pressure on the NBA is to quickly wind up with the off-season and begin with the next. So how feasible is it?

The Lakers’ are very deservingly the 2020 champions, but they’re tired. For sure, they could not go on a champions’ parade in the streets of LA. But, the 3+ months inside the bubble and 21 games in the post-season have left them drained out.
Lakers’ guard Danny Green recently gave an interview where he clarified many things for fans. He revealed, “If we start in December, I think most guys [are like] ‘I’m not going to be there… If I have to guess, coz we have a lot of vets in our team. It’s not like we have a bunch of young guys and rookies. Coz we’ve got 3 or 4 young guys or rookies.

“We will not be fortunate enough to bring the same team back. We have… Dwight in year 16, Bron’s year 18, JaVale, and these guys who’ve spent the whole season. Bron’s been in the finals 10 years out of his 17 years, which is unbelievable mentally. It’s training to do that and to have that quick a restart, I don’t expect to see him [LeBron] to be there for probably the 1st month of the season.”

Why is it tougher for the 2020 Champions to come back with the same star power?
The average of Lakers’ starting five in Game 6 of the NBA Finals was 29.6. In fact, this average is easily going above 30 if we take into account other players and the ones who are about to blow candles in a few months’ time. Hence, it is convenient to suggest that the Lakers are a fairly older side.
But we must take into account the 8 teams that were left out of the bubble or even the 6 teams that were sent home early after their elimination. These 14 teams will be very much willing to accept the season start by December 22 or so. Teams like the Brooklyn Nets, who had their stars sitting out for more than a year now, will also not mind an early restart.

Now, if the season actually kicks off in December, and in case Bron really misses out the first month, it will be 15 games without him for the Lakers. That will be a huge blow.
