LeBron James remains uninterested in the idea of playing basketball without any fans. Prior to the league’s suspension, when such an idea came up, James showed his discontent with it.

Over two weeks after league’s suspension, James stands firm reiterating that fans are an integral part of any sport. Talking on the Road Trippin’ Podcast, James said: “What is the word ‘sport’ without ‘fan’? There’s no excitement, there’s no crying. There’s no joy, there’s no back-and-forth.

“That’s what also brings out the competitive side of the players, to know that you’re going on the road in a hostile environment and yes, you’re playing against that opponent in front of you, but you really want to kick the fans’ ass too.

“So to get back on the floor, I would love it. I’m not going to sit here and say nothing. Like, if it’s get out there and get back on the floor five-on-five … but like, we can do that in scrimmages.

“Let’s just go to each other’s practice facility, put out a camera, just scrimmage and livestream it. … I just don’t know how we can imagine a sporting event without fans. It’s just, it’s a weird dynamic.”

LeBron James is also not a fan of the idea of going straight to the playoffs

A possible scenario of the league ending its suspension is resuming after skipping the remainder of the regular season. James is among those who isn’t in favour of the idea saying it wouldn’t be fair on the teams.

“One thing you can’t just do is go straight to the playoffs,” James said during his podcast session. “Because it discredits the 60-plus games that guys had fighting for that position.”

A similar scenario came up recently which talked about a mini playoff between four teams for the final playoff spot. With Lakers on top of the Western Conference, there is a possibility they could face Portland Trail Blazers in the playoffs.

James had high regards for the team and its players.

“Listen, Dame Lillard in an eighth seed, that’s challenging,” he said. “You got Dame Lillard, who could go for 50 (points); C.J. McCollum, who could go for 40; a Carmelo Anthony that, if he gets hot — which we know [he can] — in the postseason could go for 35-40 as well. … When you have that type of experience with Portland, they can make things happen.”
