Ja Morant has often credited his family for getting him to where he is today. His bond with family was evident on draft night in 2019. Ja was consoled by his father as he was overwhelmed with emotion after being selected as the overall number two by the Memphis Grizzlies. With his family as his core support system, Morant seems to be seeing a whole lot of success. Now that he’s in a position to financially take care of them, he’s appreciating their efforts in helping him become who he is.

A few weeks ago, Morant put up a video of him gifting a car to his father. Ja honored his dad, who was also his first-ever basketball coach. It was just a matter of time before his mother got a similarly lavish gift. Despite being in Orlando for the bubble, Ja delighted his mother with a car as well!

Ja is the runaway favorite in the rookie of the year race this season. Despite Zion’s strong push since returning, the volume of Morant’s games will be unmatched. With the NBA just looking at the season up until the shutdown, Zion’s chances look even bleaker. Morant has become such a favorite for the award because of his absolutely sensational play this season.

Ja is averaging 17.6 points on 49% shooting and 36% from three. He is averaging almost 7 assists and 3.5 rebounds a game. He is even averaging almost one steal a game. While these numbers may not rank along with LeBron James or Luka Doncic, they’re impressive on their own. These figures and a humble young Memphis team are heading into Orlando with a three and a half-game cushion for the eighth spot.
