The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA title, which marked their first championship in a decade. LeBron James and Anthony Davis were the backbones of this incredible championship run.
However, according to recent rumors, the Lakers might be trying to land 2-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Although it is highly unlikely, this rumor will turn true, NBA analyst Skip Bayless believes in this.
“I do not doubt this is in the works. And I don’t think it’s on the Lakers’ radar. I think it’s on LeBron James’ radar. LeBron James needs AD and Giannis to catch Michael Jordan.

“That’s what’s about to happen. I do not doubt it one second because he needs to get to 6, so he can say I’m 6 in 6… I think Giannis also needs LeBron and AD. To me, Giannis has shown himself to be nothing but a one-A.
“He cannot lead a team by himself to a title nor could LeBron in Cleveland obviously… If he [LeBron] has Giannis and AD, he could play more pure point guard and distribute and it would work and maybe he would get to 6 championships.
“… Somewhere Michael Jordan is laughing at this because this would have been the last thing that he would have tried to pull off when he played.”

If Giannis indeed join the Lakers, this move would create a super team that can ruin the entire balance in the league. After the dominance of the Warriors for 3 years with Kevin Durant, for the first time, the league appears balanced.
But if LeBron, AD, and Giannis join forces, it will completely tip the scales in their favor.

Should Giannis Antetokounmpo join LeBron James and Anthony Davis?

In a nutshell, pulling this move would instantly make Giannis Antetokounmpo a villain for the entire league. When KD joined the Warriors, he was in a similar predicament. Although Durant got his two rings, many fans still discount them for playing in a super team.

So all things taken into consideration, this move is highly unlikely to materialize into something worthwhile. Moreover, LeBron’s own legacy would take a hit if he were to bud a super team right after winning a ring with AD.
Despite the odds being very low, the NBA is very unpredictable. What are your thoughts on Skip’s comments about this potential super team?
