The highly anticipated Space Jam sequel got a fresh look last week through LeBron James. The Lakers star is playing the main role in the franchise, which is returning with a sequel after 25 years. The first part starring Michael Jordan was a huge hit, and grossed $230 million worldwide.

James, who signed the movie deal in 2016, released the title of the sequel by donning a new franchise cap, which had the words, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” embroidered on the hull.

The movie is expected to hit the screens by June 2021, and fans can’t wait to witness King James fill in the shoes of ‘His Airness’, who found success with his role in the movie. However, back in 2016, Michael Jordan had an interesting comment to make on the Space Jam sequel.

Michael Jordan preferred Clippers star over LeBron James for the sequel

LeBron James, who proudly sits on the throne as the best player of the generation, was not MJ’s pick for the second part. His comment came even before the sequel’s confirmation broke out on the media.

MJ was engaging a Q/A session with kids at a basketball camp, when one person asked him the question. “If you had an opinion on the main role in Space Jam 2, who would you have chosen?” The kids gathered around Jordan were eager to know his opinion as the names of Kobe Bryant and LeBron could be faintly heard.

But to everyone’s surprise, Michael Jordan picked the former LA Clippers player, Blake Griffin. Nevertheless, the kids roared in excitement that MJ picked the ‘Lob City’ star. While LeBron James is now the lead of the movie, the Jumpman had different thoughts back then.

It is hard to picture Griffin as the lead of the movie, considering the moderate success he has enjoyed over the past few years. A career inclined towards winning NBA titles and MVP awards, like LeBron, might have convinced the film crew to take up MJ’s words and sign him up for the sequel.

However, we will soon get to see LeBron making his mark in the movie. His spectacular dunks will be of utmost help against the Monstars.
