To be fair, both LeBron James and Michael Jordan fans believe that their man is better than the other. There may be some who believe that both these legends stand on the same pedestal, but that’s very rare. These two are athletes that broke our previous notions of excellence. Therefore, the GOAT debate remains unanswered to date. However, one Hall of Famer has a clear favorite.

Ever since the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA title after a decade, the GOAT debate has reignited once again. James has appeared in the NBA Finals ten times and won it four times, while Jordan is six from six. This usually tends to be the crux of the MJ fans’ arguments.

However, LBJ fans counter this with a very controversial argument. They say that Jordan played in an era that didn’t have as much competition, the way LeBron does. While this conversation may be endless, Hall of Famer Dave Bing’s opinion on this topic might help some fans gain more perspective.

Jacoby asked Dave, “Mr. Bing, you’ve seen a lot of basketball. You’ve seen a lot of different eras of NBA basketball… Where do you stand on who the greatest basketball player is of all time?”

Dave said, “The most dominant player would be Wilt Chamberlain. The most successful would have been Bill Russell because of all the championships that he’s won. But when you look at MJ and you look at LeBron, if I had to choose who I would want to play with, I think it would be LeBron.

“I say that because LeBron plays the whole floor, the whole game. He was not the kind of scorer that MJ was. But as a player on both ends of the court, the offensive end and the defensive end, he did some things statistically that MJ didn’t do… Nobody scored like MJ. He could take anybody but I would prefer to play with LeBron.”
