The Houston Rockets, who were sent home from the NBA in the WCSF, are on a hunt for a new head coach. They were one of the top contenders to make it out of the West, instead; they choked once again.

The Rockets faced the LA Lakers in the second round and received a gentleman’s sweep by LA. Following this early exit, head coach Mike D’Antoni called it quits with the team. Star point guard Russell Westbrook’s inability to play at an elite level was one of the biggest reasons for their defeat.
But one could only wonder, was D’Antoni responsible for the poor run as well? In a nutshell, yes. D’Antoni made no adjustments for his team, even when they were being outplayed by the Lakers. As a result, the purple and gold had no trouble in defeating the Rockets.

The Rockets are testing the market to fill the void for Mike D’Antoni. A fan asked NBA Insider Scoop B to hint at potential candidates for the job. To which, Scoop B replied:
“Houston Rockets head coaching candidates: John Lucas, Ty Lue, David Vanterpool, Jeff Van Gundy, Chris Finch.”

The biggest issue with Mike D’Antoni’s system was a lack of varied plays when the team was in dire situation. At times, Mike relied on Harden even when he was having a bad game. So, the one thing the Rockets need to ensure to hire a coach with a more fluid coaching style.

When Russell Westbrook was traded to the Rockets, the hopes were high for them. Both James Harden and Westbrook are former NBA MVPs- they were expected to hit the ground running. However, come playoff time, the duo could not meet the high expectation from fans.
Heading to the next season, the Western Conference will become even competitive. The Golden State Warriors will be back after a quick detour from their unreal run in the West. Along with them, many young stars such as Murray, Doncic, Mitchell are looking as good as ever.

All things considered, the Rockets might have blown their chance to make it to the NBA Finals. But what do you think? Can the Rockets make a deep playoff run next season?
