The New Orleans Pelicans have a bright future with a great young core. However, during the NBA Bubble seeding games, it was obvious that they lacked experience. Another concern for them has to be a string of poor performances from the former no. 2 pick, Lonzo Ball.

Ball arrived in New Orleans after the Anthony Davis trade earlier this season. While Brandon Ingram has shown significant improvement, Ball’s story has been the complete opposite. He has been very inconsistent and hasn’t lived up to expectations.

To restart things from a new perspective, Pelicans fired coach Alvin Gentry right after the seeding games. But it might not be enough for the Pelicans to make the playoffs in a stacked Western Conference.

New Orleans Pelicans exploring options

After trading Anthony Davis, Pelicans went into a complete rebuild. Luckily, the basketball Gods blessed them with the first pick in the 2019 NBA draft. They used that pick to draft arguably the most hyped prospect in the NBA since LeBron James – Zion Williamson.

Though Zion missed most of the season, he displayed his potential whenever he got the chance. Ball and Williamson could become a great duo in the next decade if they stay together.

However, according to ESPN analyst Jay Williams, Lonzo’s time in New Orleans might be over soon. “I am hearing things around New Orleans that potentially Lonzo may be used as a trading asset in New Orleans,” revealed Williams.

Williams also gave his insight on the upcoming draft which features Lonzo’s brother, LaMelo Ball.

“LaMelo won’t go number 1, he won’t go number 2 unless the Warriors decide to use this as a trading asset, but then think about the third pick, the Charlotte Hornets, who owns the Charlotte Hornets, Michael Jordan. And how much trash have you heard Lavar talk, he could about beating Michael Jordan 1v1.”

Looking at the recent performances by Lonzo Ball, it won’t be a surprise if he is traded in the upcoming offseason. But at this point, there is no substantiated evidence for these rumors.

NOLA could be in a burdensome situation if they trade away their star point guard. Ball is still on his rookie contract, so there is a possibility of a resurgence in his form.
