The Minnesota Timberwolves are clearly looking like the team to beat next season. Recent reports suggest that Minnesota is interested in bringing Orlando’s Aaron Gordon in exchange for the first pick in this year’s draft.
Darren Wolfson, a Timberwolves insider in his podcast, said, “The Wolves had trade interest in Aaron Gordon of Orlando back in February. My sense is that has not changed.”
He added, “(The Wolves) have kicked the tires on Jrue Holiday. The issue there is he’s a bit older, he can opt out after next season. All signs point to him opting out after next season.”

The Wolves would have benefitted from the signing of Jrue Holiday’s caliber. But they are planning to stick with Gordon because he has a number of years left in him and can contribute at both ends of the field.
The team was interested in reuniting KAT with his longtime friend Devin Booker. The Suns have clarified that they are not willing to part ways with Booker. Pheonix are building a young core of Ayton and Booker, a trade at this stage would take them 2 years ago.
The Orlando Magic, meanwhile, are looking to enter the rebuilding phase. They already have 2 talented young players in Johnathan Isac and Markelle Fultz. By acquiring the #1 pick, Magic can look to build around this trio of Fultz, Issac, and their 1st pick prospect.
Why Gordon might be the Answer for Timberwolves
Aaron Gordon has been in the NBA for 6 years now. He is probably the most athletic player in the NBA, and over the years has developed a knack for scoring.

Gordon had a bit of a down year as he averaged 14.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Timberwolves can get a player who can be a go-to scorer in Gordon apart from D’Angelo Russel and Karl Anthony Towns.

Gordon is a stretch-power-forward and would fit well next to Karl-Anthony Towns on both sides of the court. He is a good shooter/scorer and can convert at all three levels.

This would provide Minnesota with a much-needed defensive option. KAT and Russell might be great scorers but are average in defense. The addition of Gordon would surely bolster their defense.
With the addition of Gordon, Minnesota will have their own Big 3. With the right pieces, this team can compete for years to come.
