The 2020 NBA offseason is going ahead in full-swing and teams are splashing major bucks to lure in players. However, the New York Knicks have been fairly quiet and fans aren’t happy. Several players were linked to the franchise with Victor Oladipo being one of them. Are the Knicks going to trade for the Pacers star this year?

Victor Oladipo is entering his final year of contract with the Pacers, and there were several rumors swiveling around his future. The Knicks were strongly connected with trading the Maryland native, but what’s the current status?

Marc Berman of the New York Post has put forth that the Knicks’ front office is primarily divided in Oladipo’s case. The franchise can afford a player of his quality, but the top executives aren’t coming to a compromise.

“According to sources, Knicks GM Scott Perry, who drafted Oladipo when with Orlando, would like to explore that avenue, but Knicks president Leon Rose is less eager. Oladipo has yet to return to elite form since knee surgery nearly two years ago,” Berman wrote.

The NY Post author also mentioned that Oladipo might not be available this summer as he’s fully committed to the Pacers. The 28-year-old publicly dismissed rumors about his move, which is indeed positive news for the Pacers franchise.

Oladipo saw his scoring numbers go down after returning from a grueling quad tendon injury. That might be the primary factor behind the Knicks’ reluctance in signing the two-way guard.

How the New York Knicks have made use of the 2020 offseason

It is now crystal clear that Victor Oladipo won’t be heading to the New York Knicks this year. However, the franchise had other ideas in mind and they’ve signed a few players to bolster their attack.

Besides picking up NY native Obi Toppin in the NBA draft, they signed free-agents Nerlens Noel and Elfrid Payton on one-year deals. The franchise is aiming to make short terms signings and would spend big during next year’s offseason.

The Knicks also signed Austin Rivers to the team, in addition to bringing in Alec Burks. Other teams have spent big, but the Knicks have remained fairly quiet till now.

The New York Knicks failed to capitalize on signing top-free agents. They lost Gordon Hayward to the Hornets amid strong links with the franchise. The team is undergoing a quiet rebuild with young talents. Can they overturn playoffs woes and qualify after six long years?
