“Giannis Stuffs the Stat Sheet Differently Than LeBron Does”: NBA Insider Speaks on MVP Contention

The 2019/20 NBA season is almost headed into the playoffs. However, the regular-season awards are still pending and we just can’t wait for the ceremony to commence. Until then, a few predictions would help fans learn who are the deserving candidates this year. The prime area of focus would be the league MVP, where stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James clash for the honor. 

Everyone is entitled to make their opinion. But it also matters where they are coming from. A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to interview one of the most renowned NBA journalists, Mr. Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson.

During the hour-long interview, we couldn’t refrain from asking his opinion on the league MVP candidates. Of course, the three finalists that have made the cut are all tremendous players. But only one can be judged as the winner. Who should it be, in Scoop B’s opinion?

LeBron James or Giannis Antetokounmpo: NBA Insider Brandon Robinson gives his pick 

First and foremost, all due respect to the trio of stars in contention for the 2020 award. All three have had dominant seasons with their respective teams. Scoop B Robinson has been covering the league for several years now. Naturally, he has some set parameters that help him determine the winning candidate.

“I think LeBron had the edge when the pandemic stopped play. But I think Giannis had the edge throughout the season, physically and because that the Milwaukee Bucks have the best record. But I think the advantage that LeBron James has had is that he’s leading the league in assists.

“I spoke with Magic Johnson a few months ago about LeBron’s ability to legitimately play the point-forward position for the Los Angeles Lakers.”

Mr. Robinson then stated how we are in the era of point-forwards in the league. 

“I’d like to LeBron James win the MVP, but I do think it is neck and neck right now. I still do think that many writers who have the voting capability…I think that Giannis is the guy they’re most looking at,” he continued. “It comes with the fact that Giannis stuffs the stat sheet differently than LeBron does.

“I am team LeBron, but Giannis had it throughout most of the year.” 

Indeed, Giannis has been unstoppable throughout the season. But should LeBron be the deserving candidate for the numbers he’s putting up in his 17th years as a professional athlete?
