LeBron James is the key to any team’s success. This LA Laker’s team feels that more than anyone. The title favorites are in a second-round battle with the Houston Rockets. The series is currently two apiece. Game one went to the Rockets, with a disappointing performance by LeBron James. However, game two saw him and AD take control and get a win for the Lakers.

Paul Pierce believes that the Lakers’ success comes from LeBron James, irrespective of the numbers Anthony Davis puts up. He also feels that LeBron’s aggression on the court is the key to success for this Lakers team.

“When LeBron is assertive at the beginning of the game, he sets the tone for his team. We have seen that in every playoff series. They lose game one because LeBron is passive, he comes out in game two and he’s aggressive. He had 18 points in the first half and he sets the tone for his team. I don’t think it matters what Anthony Davis does in a game. He can have thirty every night, but it’s all about LeBron being aggressive. When (LeBron) has scored 30 points, the Lakers are 32-1.”

LeBron James or Anthony Davis: Who is the best Laker?

This is a hard question to answer. People have argued that AD may have a better case for MVP over LeBron because of the numbers that he has put up. He leads the Lakers in every major statistical category outside assists. However, it is foolish to look past LeBron being the key that unlocks Davis’s dominance.

We have seen Davis put up even better numbers in his Pelicans days. However, those teams never came close to contending for a title. Davis’s dominance is established, but he doesn’t have the same ability to improve others around him. LeBron has that ability.

Both bring a lot of tools to the table, but we cannot say that LeBron isn’t the bonafide number one option of this team. They run plays for AD, but it’s usually LeBron that is running those plays. Even AD becomes less effective without LBJ on the floor. If this team wants success, they need LeBron James to be the 1A to AD’s 1B. Both men are needed to be excellent to win this championship in the bubble.
