The party is on in Los Angeles as the Lakers are now the NBA Champions for 2020. The Lakers claimed their 17th NBA Championship in franchise history, vanquishing the Miami Heat in 6 games. With Finals MVP LeBron James playing at the highest level, the Lakers made history. Head coach Frank Vogel sung the praises of James in his post-match comments.

The Lakers brought in LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the time span of a year. Under the coaching tree of Vogel, the duo willed the team to the number-1 seed in the stacked Western Conference. A fact made more impressive considering they hadn’t reached the Playoffs in 7 years. Even with the COVID-19-induced stoppage, the Lakers never lost the momentum they built across the season.

As is the case every year, James’ stepped up his performances in the Playoffs. ‘The King’ pushed himself and his team to play at a level above in the post-season. Making their way through the West, the Lakers took down the Trailblazers, Rockets, and the Nuggets in consecutive gentleman’s sweeps.

LBJ and the ‘Lake Show’ faced off against a hungry Miami Heat team in the NBA Finals. Despite being the underdogs, the Heat pushed the Lakers to 6 games thanks to the sublime performances of Jimmy Butler. In the end, however, the dynamic duo of ‘The King’ and ‘The Brow’ proved too much to handle for the Heat, and the Lakers won their first NBA title since 2010. For his outstanding performances, James was crowned Finals MVP, becoming the first to win the honor with 3 different franchises.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel spoke with the media after the game. When asked about James, Vogel said “But I have always believed in LeBron James. He’s the greatest player the basketball universe has ever seen, & if you think you know, you don’t know…okay, until you’re around him every day, you’re coaching him, you’re seeing his mind, you’re seeing his adjustments, seeing the way he leads the group. You think you know; you don’t know.”
