Pilot’s Family Trashes Vanessa’s Claims, Says Kobe Bryant & Gigi Knew the Risks of Flying

A relative of the pilot in the helicopter crash, which killed Kobe Bryant and eight others, has argued that the victims of the crash were aware of the risks of flying at that time.

In January, the LA Lakers legend and his daughter Gianna died in a helicopter crash along with seven others. Kobe’s wife Vanessa Bryant, in February, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the company and the pilot. She registered a case against Island Express Helicopters, claiming that Ara Zobayan, the pilot, failed to properly monitor and assess the weather before the takeoff.

As per People, Ara’s relative Berge Zobayan is now arguing that the passengers were to blame for the incident.

“Any injuries or damages to plaintiffs and/or their decedent were directly caused in full or in part by the negligence or fault of plaintiffs and/or their decedent, including their knowing and voluntary encounter with the risks involved, and that this negligence was a substantial factor in causing their purported damages, for which this answering defendant bears no responsibility,” the response, as obtained by People, states.

Also, the company Island Express has been trying to trash the allegations. As per TMZ, the company had a similar response to that of the pilot’s family. They too claimed that both Kobe and Gigi knew of the risks involved. Therefore, Vanessa’s claim for damages can’t come into consideration.

“Kobe Bryant and GB [Gigi] had actual knowledge of all of the circumstances, particular dangers, and an appreciation of the risks involved and the magnitude thereof. And proceeded to encounter a known risk, and voluntarily assumed the risk of the accident, injury. Thereby barring or reducing [Vanessa’s] claim for damages,” their response read.

Kobe and Vanessa were together for 18 years before the unfortunate crash. They would have celebrated their 19th anniversary in April. Also, earlier this month, Gigi would have turned 14. Vanessa shared a picture of Gigi on May 1, remembering her daughter on her birthday. She also shared pictures of a cake that she received from family friends Pau Gasol and his wife.
