Rajon Rondo is a special player, there are no two ways about that. Since the day of his inclusion on the Lakers team in the Orlando Bubble, the team has improved drastically. But who would have thought that a former Celtics player would become an instrumental piece for Lakers in a championship run?

Well, Rondo has made that possible, and the former NBA champion is now just three wins away from becoming a two-time NBA champ. Further, if the Lakers win this season, Rondo will be part of a unique feat. He would become the first player in NBA history to win rings as part of both the Lakers and Celtics.

Rondo was a part of the 2008 Boston Celtics super team and played a crucial role. The player shared his thoughts on the same in a recent interview after a blowout Game 1 victory over the Heat.

“It’s funny. I’ve always said that, even last year when I signed with the Lakers. I said that from the jump. I wanted to look up the history and see if any player has done it. What better way to end the back end or part of my career is winning another championship, and to do it with one of the most, if not the most, storied franchise in history.

“And to have the opportunity to have both the two most winning franchises is definitely something I’m looking forward to. It’s a humbling feeling to be a part of something so great, and to be blessed to play this game for so long.”

Rondo is no longer his younger flashy self, but he is still getting the job done. He takes up the playmaking responsibilities when needed, allowing LeBron James to focus on scoring.

Is Rajon Rondo the third-best player for the Lakers?

Rondo’s stats don’t jump out of the box score. However, his contributions are much more than just numbers. He is a true point guard that a championship team needs. When Rondo is on the floor, the Lakers’ offense flows much more smoothly and looks like a well-oiled machine.

In the 11 games that Rondo has played so far, he has averaged 8.9 ppg with 3.7 rebounds and 6.9 assists while shooting 48.1% from the field. Moreover, Rondo has stepped up his three-point shooting from the regular season. Prior to postseason, it was an abysmal 32.8% which has now amped up to 41.2%.
