A preseason opener doesn’t hold much significance. But if last season the team finished with the worst record of 15-50 and then had to sit out for nine months to make a comeback, winning a game must be a big relief. The Golden State Warriors, playing against the Denver Nuggets, won 107-105. With the regular season just days away, their star player Stephen Curry has a lot of expectations from the team.

The Warriors were the favorites to win the 2020-21 NBA Championship. However, those dreams were crushed as soon as it was announced that Klay Thompson will be out the entire season because of injuries. But let’s not jump to any conclusions. The franchise did an incredible job in stocking up their roster with as much talent as possible this offseason.

The obvious replacement for Thompson is Kelly Oubre Jr, who was the popular forward of the Phoenix Suns. Even though nobody can bring in the value Thompson does, nobody else seems more competent than Oubre to take over that role.

Even Draft night was a big success. They managed to back one of the top prospects of the draft, James Wiseman, from whom there are many high expectations.

Stephen Curry emphasizes on team’s defense

After winning the game without key defensive players like Wiseman and Draymond Green, Golden State showed a lot of energy on that end.

In an interview with Steph, he stated, “I think our goal is obviously being a top ten defense. And kind of wreaking havoc with length and speed and versatility.” Talking about the game with Nuggets, he said, “I guess we saw flashes of it tonight. We still don’t have Draymond and Wiseman.

“I think that versatility will be huge no matter who we’re playing. It’s going to be the key to our success. We know we can score the ball, but on a nightly basis, as you develop that chemistry offensively and shorts aren’t falling, you have to rely on your defense, rebounds, and to be able to stay in games.”

He concluded by praising all that his teammates did in the game against Nuggets. We can only hope we get to see the glory days of the Warriors once again.
