The Miami Heat‘s surprise playoff run this season was a welcome surprise. The fifth-seed team defeated the Pacers, the Bucks, and the Celtics to reach the NBA Finals. The Heat were one of the lowest-odds NBA finalists in recent history and were led by Jimmy Butler, who signed with Miami in last year’s off-season.
Goran Dragić was the leading scorer for the Heat, while rookies Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and Kendrick Nunn stepped up in the biggest roles they could be. Players like Jae Crowder and Andre Iguodala provided important veteran experience, and Bam Adebayo completed the team as the team’s big man.
The Heat stormed through the Pacers to make it to the conference semi-finals. It was during the series with the Bucks that the Heat showed how dangerous they are. The Heat made quick work of the Bucks, beating league-MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo in 5 games to reach the finals. In the Eastern Conference Finals, the Heat beat the Boston Celtics to make their first NBA final in six years.

The Los Angeles Lakers proved too much for the young Heat team, defeating them in six games to win the NBA Championship. The combination of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, along with injuries to Goran Dragić and Bam Adebayo, was an insurmountable gap between the two teams.
While everyone expected the Lakers to make quick work of the Heat, the Miami team made things really complicated for the ‘Lakeshow’, stretching the series to six games.
While the Miami Heat did not win an NBA Championship, they did win a lot of hearts. The Heat became the feel-good story of the season. Great performances from players like Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and more will go down in history, as will this Miami Heat off-season.
