Recently the coaching union of the NBA took a big step to battle injustice and racism. The NBCA (National Basketball Coaches Association) formed a committee on racial injustice and reform. This committee is led by Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce and includes coaches like Steve Kerr, Gregg Popovich, and David Fizdale.

They released a statement along with it, which said “We are committed to working in our NBA cities with local leaders, officials and law enforcement agencies to create positive change in our communities.” All the coaches included have been vocal in the community. In the aftermath of the alleged homicide of George Floyd, a lot of these coaches, especially Kerr, have refused to stay mum.

Prominent NBA coach Steve Kerr believes in the younger generation

Since the protests in the country began, Kerr has been voicing out his opinion. Recently he tweeted, “The younger generation coming up is more diverse, more tolerant, & more informed than any generation before them. By actively acknowledging & protesting the racism that has long defined our nation’s history, the younger generation is providing the hope that we all need.”

Stephen Curry speaks up as well

The Golden State Warriors head coach is not the only one speaking out from the organization. Two-time MVP Steph Curry has also been active. He recently spoke on the Life Podcast, where he said, “Until people outside of our community speak up, use their platform, get uncomfortable and actually feel some type of emotional change to the issues then we are just going to be in the same situation.”

Both of them have never shied away from standing up for the right cause. Kerr had extended his support when Colin Kaepernick had taken a stand against police brutality. He has also campaigned for gun control after losing his father to gun violence.

Since taking over as the Warriors head coach, Kerr has won three championships with them. That makes it a total of eight rings, including five from his playing days with Chicago Bulls.
