The Toronto Raptors have constantly defied expectations in the NBA. However, after years of playoff failures after strong regular season performances, people thought the team wasn’t capable of becoming champions. That changed with the arrival of not only Kawhi Leonard, but coach Nick Nurse.

Nurse won the NBA Championship as a rookie head coach with Kawhi leading the team. However, he has continued that strong form into this season, improving the team’s record since last season.

Nurse was seemingly snubbed in the coaches’ vote. However, he garnered a lot of support from the fans and the media. The sophomore year coach was awarded the Coach of the Year title for all his efforts this season in leading this Raptors team to the second seed in the East.

Nurse has proven himself to be an astute tactical coach that has helped guide this Raptors team through a lot of adversity. His solid coaching is what enabled the smooth transition from Kawhi to their current team makes up. He has made this team even more unique in the sense that they actually improved after losing their star player. This is largely in credit for Nurse’s coaching.

Considering the way the 76ers have crumbled, the Raptors are the only solid match up with a chance to beat them. They still have Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka, the two players that frustrated Giannis Antetokounmpo into a loss last playoffs.

No team looks as prepared as the Raptors, and that is due to the mentality that Nurse has developed in them. Despite the losses the team has had, they attack games on both ends of the floor from start to finish, usually finishing the job they started. This is why Nick Nurse is the man everyone saw as the best coach this season.
