Los Angeles Lakers’ Jared Dudley believes the team needs its center, Dwight Howard, who is yet to confirm his availability for the league’s restart.

Howard has recently lost his mother. He has also spoken out against the league’s resumption, saying it might be a distraction from the ongoing protests against issues in the society. Talking to the reporters on a Zoom call, his teammate Dudley believed the team needs him. He, however, also respected Howard’s decision and was ready to accept it even if he chooses not to play.
“We hope Dwight comes. We need Dwight,” Dudley said (H/T Silverscreen and Roll).

“They’re friends of mine, we’re all good friends… One thing you have to respect in life is family, regardless. Everyone’s family is so different. Obviously both of them have different perspectives and different things. We respect it.
“For us, life is more important. We’d love to have them, but I don’t have any ill will for anyone who wants to sit out. Me personally, where I’m at, I feel comfortable. It’d be different if my wife didn’t want me to go, but for them, it’s a little bit different.”
The Lakers will also be without Avery Bradley, who has already confirmed his unavailability. However, the team has signed JR Smith Bradley’s replacement. The Lakers are yet to take a decision on Howard, and Dudley believes there is still hope that he might return.

“It’ll be a little bit different without Avery, or with any teammate not being there potentially, but Dwight I know there is still hope and still a chance,” Dudley said. “We’re hoping to see him down there.”

Los Angeles Lakers will be aiming for the Championship
The Lakers were among the best teams when the NBA suspended its league. They were on top of the Western Conference with 49 wins. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the team, the Lakers look good to win their first championship since 2010.
The Lakers will restart the NBA season with a game against Los Angeles Clippers. They have a five-game cushion over the second-placed Clippers and should be able to finish on top of the Western Conference.
