Michael Jordan throwing away a rapper’s shoes that were not from the Jordan brand is a story that many would have heard of.

It was in 2002, rapper Lil Bow Wow, also known as Shad Moss, was staying in Jordan’s house in Chicago. He was wearing Allen Iverson’s sneakers and the Chicago Bulls legend not just threw them away but gifted him a pair from his own brand.

“Michael Jordan threw away my Allen Iverson sneakers when I stayed at his house,” Moss once said. “Every time my tour came through [Chicago], I would just stay at their house. I went over there with my Allen Iversons on, I woke up, and they were gone.”

Interestingly, even Jordan’s own family suffered the same fate on wearing different shoes. His daughter Jasmine revealed a time when Michael Jordan once threw her shoes away.

Talking on the Big Boy’s neighborhood, Jasmine said it was the only time she had worn shoes from a different brand and found them in the trash. “The only other brand I have worn is the Skechers and they were in the trash the next day,” she said.

Jordan’s Air brand under Nike, even after years after his retirement has a great market. There are many players in the NBA who wear those shoes. Nike has always been an integral part of Jordan’s career.

Yet, when he had just come into the NBA, he wasn’t particularly interested in signing with Nike. It shouldn’t sound surprising considering the limited market that Nike then had in the NBA.

But Jordan eventually signing with Nike turned out to be extremely beneficial for the brand.
