NBA records broken

Records are meant to be broken. A record is like a bench mark accomplishment that players would actively seek to break or maybe avoid. Here are the list of records broken during the Regular and post-season of the 2014/15 Season.

On November 11, Dirk Nowitzki surpassed Hakeem Olajuwon as the highest NBA scorer born outside the USA and 9 on the All-time NBA list in 106-98 win for the Mavericks over Sacramento. He finished the match on 26,953 points and would continue to move up the scoring charts.

On November 12, Los Angeles Lakers star, Kobe Bryant surpassed John Havilcek’s tally of “Missed Field Goals”. The record breaking 13,418th missed shot came in a 107-102 road loss against Memphis.

On December 14, 2014, Kobe Bryant passed Michael Jordan on the all-time NBA scoring charts on a night when Lakers recorded a 100-94 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He trails Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul Jabaar. (Should be noted, Jordan played 200 fewer games than Kobe).

On January 23, Golden State Warriors Guard, Klay Thomson scored an NBA record of points scored in a single quarter of the game. He scored 37 in a perfect 3 Quarter where he shot 13 of 13 from the Field, including 9 of 9 from the 3 point range. He added 2/2 Free Throws. T

The 13/13 shooting ties an All-Time NBA record for perfect shooting in a quarter held by David Thomson. His 9, 3 point field goals made in a quarter beat the previous NBA record of 8 made by Joe Johnson and Michael Redd.

All these records were broken in a 126-101 win over the Sacramento Kings.

The All 2015 All-star game saw Oklahoma City Thunder’s star guard, Russell Westbrook record the second highest amount of points, as he scored 41 to help the Western Conference beat the Eastern Conference 163-158.

On 24 March, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks grabbed his 10,000 Rebound in a 101-94 victory over state rivals, San Antonio Spurs. He is now the only player to record 25,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 1,000 blocked shots, and 1,000 3-point field goals.

Nowitzki crossed 28,000 regular season points and is just a few hundred points behind Shaquille O’Neal (6 Place) on the NBA scoring Charts.

 

Tim Duncan and LeBron James are the latest players to cross 5,000 career playoff points in the 2015 Post season. They are now 5 and 6 on the all time charts.

Stephen Curry broke 3-point field goal records in the regular season and post season. He finished the regular season with 286 3-point field goals, breaking his own record of 272 set during the 2012/13 season.
In the post season, he scored his 59 3-point field goal during the playoffs against Houston in the Western Conference Finals, breaking the previous record of 58 held by Reggie Miller set during the 2000 NBA post season.

The Golden State Warriors starting guards, Klay Thomson and Stephen Curry have been dubbed “Splash Brothers”. Curry had 286 and Thomson had 239 3-point field goals. Their combined total is the most made by any duo.

It surpassed their previous best by 41. They scored more 3-point goals together than 14 other teams during the 2014/15 Regular Season.

Andre Iguodala became the first NBA Finals MVP not to have started all the matches in the series. He had played off the bench under Kerr all-season before being inserted in the starting line-up against Cleveland Cavaliers Game 4 onwards. His defence against James during the season was phenomenal.
