The reality is, if Detroit doesn’t trade Drummond, the team keeps losing and the offence remains broken. Drummond’s value will decrease enough for him to be forced to pick up his player option. He will most likely then look for a big contract in the next free agency.
Atlanta Hawks Rebuild
There is no official word on which side nixed the deal but it seems safe to assume that Atlanta is one who walked away.

Atlanta doesn’t need to rush into anything given its 9-32 record. They have another chance at a high draft pick as their rebuild continues. The organisation was hoping to give their rising star Trae Young another top-tier to pair up in the frontcourt with John Collins. The Franchise will remain patient, knowing they can improve their roster through the draft or free agency.
Atlanta acquired PG Jeff Teague and Treveon Graham for Crabbe to Timberwolves. Teague and Graham will fix the dreadful backup PG and defence situation behind Trae.
Hayne’s also reported that Andre Drummond is still one of Atlanta’s top target’s this offseason. Assuming they do not trade for a different centre like Steven Adams or draft a lottery pick centre in 2020-2021 draft.
