Back in 2021, Kierra Fletcher played in the NCAA basketball tournament wearing a navy and gold jersey. At that time, Fletcher, along with the Yellow Jackets, was eliminated by the South Carolina Women’s basketball team before they could advance to the top eight. However, Fletcher’s performance made her the apple of everyone’s eye.

Two years after this matchup, Fletcher joined South Carolina as a graduate. But why? She missed her entire senior year at her former team due to foot surgery. A coach beyond the court: Dawn Staley

For Fletcher, Dawn Staley was more than just a head coach. Interestingly, she was a person that she had dreamt of throughout her life. When she first entered the basketball court, little did she know what she never dreamt of was about to happen. Even after entering the transfer portal, she never aimed at entering the No. 1 South Carolina.

When I’m around someone or have the opportunity to meet someone that I look up to that much, I just really get extremely nervous,” she added, “I went up to Coach and I was like, I just want to let you know I’m your biggest fan and like, I love you … I just thought it was really cool, and my coach took a picture of us and stuff.

Now, as Fletcher was graduating from the university that was a dream come true for her, Dawn Staley offered her the memory of a lifetime. Now, the question is: What will Fletcher do next? Will she be pursuing something else, or will she be taking up a career as a basketball player? Stay tuned to find out!
