Friday felt like another reminder of how special this UConn run has been. With a win over Seton Hall, Geno Auriemma’s Huskies moved to 21-0 and 11-0 in conference play, but the night grew sweeter when South Carolina sent an upset to one of the best performers in the nation. With this, Auriemma’s side has achieved a record that truly sums up their dominance in this regular season.

While Vanderbilt arrived in the South Carolina game with a 20-0 record, it lost 73-104, their first defeat of the season. Thus, after the Commodores’ fall, the Huskies now stand as the only team in the circuit with a perfect record. Talia Goodman, a national women’s collegiate basketball reporter for On3, confirmed the Huskies’ achievement via X.

The post’s caption read, “There is now only ONE undefeated women’s basketball team remaining.”

The Huskies under Auriemma have gone undefeated on several occasions, including the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons, but he has never emphasized that goal.

“I don’t think we go into any season thinking that this is going to be an undefeated season or that our goal is an undefeated season,” he said a couple of days back.

Throughout the 2025-26 regular season, the Huskies have wreaked havoc on other teams. The team has won most of its competitions by more than 20 points, except for the Louisville and Michigan game, which went down to the wire. Besides Notre Dame, Villanova, and Creighton, etc were all locked in by Geno Auriemma’s team.

They have been equally formidable on offense and defense, conceding just 51 points this season and scoring nearly 89.8 per game, the third highest in the nation. This two-way expertise of the side was also on display in the side’s latest win against Seton Hall, too.

Auriemma’s side won the contest 92-52, led by Sarah Strong and Blanca Quinonez’s 16 points each, while Azzi Fudd added 14 more, as each of them registered three steals to help their side continue their perfect run.

With the Huskies remaining the only unbeaten team in women’s collegiate basketball, Goodman’s post on X has drawn mixed reactions about the challenges the team faces in the Big East. Here are a few of those.

Fans React Critically to UConn Huskies’ Lone Stance as the Only Unbeaten Team in Women’s Collegiate Basketball

NCAA basketball fans were quick to mark the UConn Huskies’ Big East conference as an unchallenging landscape. “The Big East conference is equivalent to an HBCU conference,” a fan wrote. “Easiest conference in basketball 🙄,” chimed in another.

While the conference’s strengths and challenges are subjective, the NET rankings place the Big East fifth, behind the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC. Moreover, no other team from the Big East conference is ranked among the top 25, which is a downgrade.

The next-highest-ranked team in the conference is Villanova, with a 15-5 overall record and a 38th-place ranking, which can go against the Huskies in the debate of the toughness of their conference.

“But Texas is still better, right?” wrote a fan. “Thank god they don’t play in the SEC because it’s f——- brutal!!!!!!!!” stated another.

Indeed, the SEC conference is arguably the most formidable in women’s collegiate basketball. Notably, eight of the top 25-ranked teams belong in this conference, with South Carolina leading the charts. For context, even a top team like Texas, which is ranked third in the NET rankings, is fourth in the SEC table, suggesting the level of competition the conference presents.

However, it won’t be substantially fair to say that Auriemma’s side will crumble if they played in this conference. The team has all the requisite players and qualities to fare up against the strongest sides in other conferences. They have proved it time and again, even in the last season when they defeated the SEC’s South Carolina Gamecocks in the finals of March Madness.

“Maybe next year they’ll actually play with a real schedule like everyone else has to 🤔,” remarked a fan.

In contrast, the Strength of Schedule rankings say something else. According to the Warren Nolan website, the Huskies have the seventh-toughest SOS at 0.6229, suggesting that Geno Auriemma’s side has been tested fairly and is considered a powerhouse in women’s basketball.

The debates regarding the UConn Huskies’ conference advantage can go on forever. However, irrespective of that, the Huskies now stand firm at the top of the table. With their upcoming challenge against Xavier on Wednesday, how long can the Huskies extend their unbeaten run? Do let us know.
