Iowa Hawkeyes Center Luka Garza Shatters Big Ten Scoring Record

December 4, 2020 3:22 pm

The Iowa Hawkeyes are off to a flying start in the Big Ten conference. They retained their best player Luka Garza who initially declared for the 2020 NBA draft but later pulled out to finish his senior year. Garza has been in red hot form and he recently shattered a massive conference record!

Iowa played its two recent games against the Southern Jaguars and Western Illinois Leathernecks. They emerged victorious in both fixtures to go 3-0 and maintain a clean start to the season.

The Hawkeyes are scheduled to take on North Carolina in their next game and it’s a big one. However, their 6’11” center Luka Garza is on a tremendous scoring spree which would ease their nerves moving ahead.

In fact, Garza has scored a combined 76 points in his last two games, which is now a Big Ten record! No player has amassed more points in a two-game span in the Big Ten over the last 20 years.

He posted 41.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in 14-15 shooting against Southern University and topped it with a 35.0 point performance against Western Illinois to etch his name in the record books.

Iowa Hawkeyes senior Luka Garza has a mission to complete

The Iowa Hawkeyes are one of the most storied teams in NCAA Division I. However, Garza became the first Hawkeye ever to be named Big Ten Conference Player of the Year. He received the award in 2019 which further raises expectations from him this year.

The talented center looked to enter the NBA this season but later withdrew his name from the draft. Iowa’s one of the top teams in Division I this season and Garza is inclined towards winning a national title with them in his final year.

Garza has added responsibilities as a senior owing to his incredible junior season. There are a lot of hopes riding on him winning the NCAA title with the Hawkeyes is one of them.

The primary goal would be to qualify for the Sweet Sixteen as the Hawkeyes’ last ever appearance came in 1999. It seems to be too long a drought.

Garza can put an end to it if he can manage to sustain his incredible form. It’s raining points, but the 6’11” big man would be expected to fire when the season starts to get intense.

Garza undoubtedly has the talent to guide the Iowa Hawkeyes into the Sweet Sixteen and further. Their performance is expected to rise from the previous season and Garza will be the key that pulls the team together.
