After Underlining Angel Reese and Co.’s Defensive Woes, Kim Mulkey Reflects on LSU’s Struggling Phase

Louisiana State University’s loss to Mississippi was indeed a great setback to the defending champions, as they dreamed of another ring. The Lady Tigers are having a shaky performance as they were exposed to two consequential losses, and Monday’s game against Florida is going to be either a momentum breaker or a gainer.

Kim Mulkey, in a pre-game press conference, addressed the current status of Angel Reese and Co., and it is widely evident that she is very disappointed with the team’s performances in the last few games. Though LSU is still at the top with a statistical advantage, the need for championship fire is yet to ignite a bit harder in them.

It is well known that Baton Rouge underperformed in their efficiency in the past two games by repeating the same mistakes on their defensive sides. Kim Mulkey is a person who is known for her temper, and that was very much visible during the match days against both South Carolina and Mississippi.

In a press conference before Monday’s game in Florida, a reporter asked Kim Mulkey, “You need to get better right now. I noticed teams are pressuring your point guards and taking a lot of your shots to get into your offense. What do you say?”

Without blinking a second, Kim Mulkey answered the question put before her: “Getting us a good shot starts with getting the ball up to the floor and just making the simple passes get open on the wing, and people are pressuring us.”

Mulkey wanted her players to deal with pressure, as she said, “deal with it, learn how to handle it, and don’t play faster because someone is pressuring you.”

What to expect with Florida vs LSU

In terms of scoring, Florida has a remarkable average of 76.3 points per game, which is 13.5 points higher than the Tigers. Conversely, the Tigers’ defense allows only an average of 62.8 points to their opponents. Florida has a winning record of 10 out of 17 games when they score more than 62.8 points, whereas LSU has a winning record of 17 out of 19 games when they allow fewer than 76.3 points.

On the contrary, the Tigers have an average of 89.8 points per game, outscoring the Gators’ allowed points of 67.7 by 22.1 points. When LSU scores more than 67.7 points, they have won 18 out of their last 21 games, whereas Florida has a record of 11 wins out of 18 games when they concede fewer than 89.8 points. Compared to the average field goal percentage of 39.0% for the Gators’ opponents, the Tigers have a higher field goal percentage of 48.3%, which is 9.3% higher.

But stats apart, it will be interesting to see whether Lady Tigers score a hatrick of losses or roars again with a resounding win.
