UConn HC Dan Hurley’s wife, Andrea Hurley, has always been regarded as an essential part of the UConn men’s basketball team, even though she doesn’t hold an official title on the sidelines. Known affectionately as the team’s “mom,” she has built a reputation for caring for players, treating them as if they were her own sons. However, during UConn’s dramatic Elite Eight victory over Duke, Andrea stepped into a different kind of role altogether; part enforcer, part protector, and entirely indispensable in a moment that demanded instant awareness.

What followed Braylon Mullins’ stunning game-winning three was always going to be chaos. As the ball dropped and the reality of a 19-point comeback hit, the UConn bench erupted. Players leapt to their feet, emotions spilling over as they surged toward the court, ready to celebrate before the buzzer had fully settled. And right there, in the middle of that eruption, Andrea Hurley moved just as quickly, grabbing, signaling, and holding players back, to make sure their excitement didn’t spiral into a costly technical foul.
She immediately starts motioning to the bench man, look at this 😭

And of course, the excitement was understandable. Duke held a 44–29 lead at halftime of that game. And at that point, they had a 96.1% win probability. In fact, trailing by 19 points late in the first half was UConn’s largest deficit of the season. Coming back from that, with a 35-foot “prayer” of a three-pointer to seal the comeback, was always going to cause an eruption.
And even if it was just 0.4 seconds remaining, if a UConn player from the bench had stepped onto the court while the ball was still live, they could have been assessed a Class B technical foul. If called, Duke gets a free throw to tie or even win the game. That would mean the inspirational comeback story we have today might only have existed in the world of what-ifs. Maybe Dan Hurley and the team owe their Final Four spot to Andrea Hurley’s simple gesture after all.
Speaking of the Final Four, the Huskies will now take on No. 3 seed Illinois on Saturday. UConn has now reached the Final Four in three of the last four seasons: 2023, 2024, and 2026. In 2024, they went all the way. Maybe they can win it this year, too. If they do, Andrea Hurley will definitely be on the special appreciation list.
Andrea Hurley’s Relationship with Dan Hurley
They say behind every great man, there is a woman. For Dan Hurley, that woman is his wife, Andrea Hurley.
The couple’s story dates back to their college days at Seton Hall University, where they first met as students. At the time, Dan was a standout basketball player, while Andrea was working around the program. What started as a simple connection quickly grew into a deep friendship. Eventually, they started a relationship that would shape both of their lives.
They got married on August 29, 1997, and have now spent nearly three decades building a life together. Over the years, Andrea has remained a constant presence through every phase of Dan’s coaching journey. She was there from his early-career stops to his rise with UConn, providing support through the highs and lows.
Together, they have two sons, Danny and Andrew, both of whom grew up immersed in basketball. Their family has also always remained closely tied to the game, with Andrew also spending time around the UConn program. Despite the demands of coaching at the highest level, Andrea has helped maintain a strong family foundation, something Dan has repeatedly credited as key to his success.
Beyond her role as a wife and mother, Andrea has also built her own identity as an educator. She is also a podcast co-host and the trusted emotional anchor within the UConn community. While she openly admits that she has little interest in the technical side of basketball, she maintains a deep connection with the players and the program, which is why people see her as far more than just a coach’s spouse.
