Arkansas versus Florida meet for the 40th time. For the Razorbacks and John Calipari, this match is crucial beyond measure. They started the conference off by losing both games, getting out-rebounded, and showing major defensive issues. Florida Gators and Todd Golden are slightly better situated, as they have a win under their belt. After a close loss against Kentucky, the Florida team rallied together to overcome the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers in a dominant showing.

Who takes the court?

Starting with the injury reports, neither team has listed injuries so far. Both the Razorbacks and the Gators look to bring their full-strength lineups into the matchup on Saturday. A win would do well for either team. As for the starting fives, the projected lineups are as follows-

Arkansas Razorbacks:

  2. Jonas Aidoo (Forward)
  3. Karter Knox (Guard)
  4. DJ Wagner (Guard)
  5. Boogie Fland (Guard)

Florida Gators:

  1. Alex Condon (Forward)
  2. Reuben Chinyelu (Center)
  3. Will Richard (Guard)
  4. Alijah Martin (Guard)
  5. Walter Clayton Jr. (Guard)

Even though the entire match up is one to watch, there are two that might demand some eyes. Firstly, Jonas Aidoo from the Arkansas Razorbacks. The talented 6 foot 11 forward has not been showing up for the last few games, and was called out by Coach Cal for the same. How he recovers from a bad string of games will be an interesting watch.

On the other hand, there’s Alijah Martin from the Gators. The 6 foot 2 guard showed out in the game against Tennessee, dropping 18 points, and has been averaging over 16 for the season. Will he be able to keep up his scoring flurry?

Now, if the question of where to watch this game is on your mind, live on ESPN is the answer. The network predicts the Gators to take the win with a 59.9% chance.

The deciding factor for Arkansas has been the rebounding in their previous two matchups. Against the Volunteers, Arkansas got out rebounded tremendously– a 22 margin. On the flip side, the Gators were clinical in their approach to rebounding against the #1 Volunteers. They are also averaging nearly ten more points, and over ten more rebounds as compared to the Arkansas team. While their assists and steals are roughly equal, Arkansas takes the lead in blocks and FG%.

Undoubtedly, the Razorbacks have a few things to address with their rebounding and defensive weaknesses.

Arkansas yet to break SEC losing streak, John Calipari calls to be battle ready

Coach Cal is a proven winner. While at Kentucky, he led the Wildcats to the championship in 2012 and performed in the playoffs consistently. However, in his first season at Arkansas, things haven’t been great. The Razorbacks have not been up to par for Calipari’s measure of success, losing both their conference match ups. Without a doubt, Arkansas is a talented team, but the sheer amount of mistakes that they’re making is catching up with them.

In the match against Tennessee, the Razorbacks were considered underdogs. The chances of them winning were slim, but you can’t ever discount a Calipari team. Sadly, the predictions turned out to be true with the Volunteers defeating Arkansas 76-52. Coach Cal called the team out, telling them to “be ready to battle,” and exposed their mistakes in such a crushing loss. This was directly followed by another crucial loss against Ole Miss.

John Calipari faces a daunting-—near impossible—task in the SEC, with tough match-ups in Kentucky, LSU and Alabama. Not to mention Auburn, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M who are currently undefeated in the conference. To make a push towards the SEC championship will be one of Coach Cal’s toughest campaigns yet, considering the circumstances.

Razorbacks enter the game on Saturday with a 10-7 lead in games played in Fayetteville. This includes a two-game winning streak. But the Gators hold the overall lead with 27 wins, including the last season’s 90-68 victory in Gainesville. The game could go either way. Can Calipari & Co. defy the odds?
