Coach Ed Cooley is a newsmaker for a reason. Earlier this year he shocked the basketball community when he announced his transfer from Providence to Georgetown. The move was driven by big money. But his current newsmaking ability is entirely for a different reason.

After his team lost to Rutgers with a final score of 71-60, Cooley made an appearance in the postgame presser. He addressed the journalists present there and gave them his piece of mind. The coach’s press briefing received a nod of approval from NCAA analyst Matt Norlander.

Cooley Lost his Cool

After suffering from a disappointing loss, Coach Cooley was seen annoyed by the questions he was asked during the post-game presser. He took this moment to address the situation: “The only way you’re going to get better is by having the courage to ask a question in these types of situations. So if you guys are sitting there, don’t just sit there like a lump on a log.”

“Have a great question, grow up, and learn what it is to ask a tough question. Seriously. We owe you an answer or you owe yourself an opportunity to grow. I say that to all of you young writers. Don’t sit in here and just be in awe. This s*** is real. Grow up, you’re in the room, learn how to ask some questions. I’m out,”  Cooley added.

Impressed by the words of wisdom from the coach, NCAA analyst Norlander sat down with Gary Parrish and shared his thoughts on the Georgetown coach’s advice: “It was cool, it was a lot of chiming in on Cooley, from a lot of people outside of college….But at the end that, so Cooley does this and I want to get into it real quick, but he is giving this advice to a lot of, I’m sure you can tell by the you know how he’s saying it, college-age reporters and maybe people that are just getting out of college. But he does this and then he says I’m out. Like, he gives them this lecture and then he doesn’t even pause a beat to allow any of them to ask a question.”

While Norlander approved the coach’s advice, he felt Cooley should’ve given the young journalist some time to ask him better questions. Amid all this, what the coach will make out of the Georgetown Hoyas is still left to be seen.

Georgetown’s journey on the court

The Hoyas currently stand with the score of 1 win and 2 losses in the 2023-24 NCAA season. While it’s still unclear what changes this team has gone through, under the leadership of coach Cooley, fans eagerly watch them every step of the way.

The Hoyas will be facing Mount St Mary’s Mountaineers in their next game in their fourth match of this season.
