Caitlin Clark has so many honors that she can’t even keep track of them all. After Saturday’s 94-71 victory against Minnesota by the fourth-ranked Iowa women, the record-breaker intends to expand her collection of commemorative basketballs by acquiring a few more.

Clark excelled throughout her remarkable junior year at Iowa. After leading the Hawkeyes to their first Final Four in thirty years and becoming the first player in NCAA Division I history to lead the nation in both scoring and assists per game, the point guard went on to win every national player of the year award. This season, Clark will have one more chance to create history. Senior Caitlin Clark may break Division I record holder Kelsey Plum’s record for most career points.

The superstar guard led the No. 4 Iowa women’s basketball team to a 94-71 victory over Minnesota on Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena with 35 points and 10 assists. In this game, Clark shattered a number of records, including ascending the Big Ten all-time list of three-pointers made, taking the lead in assists all-time, and establishing a new category.

While on offense, Iowa demonstrated its defensive brilliance early on, making four of the first five shots and limiting Minnesota to just two of its first seven attempts. “Proud of this group, like you said, we said the tone earlier; I thought there were a few up here and there,” said Clark about the team spirit that led to such a remarkable victory.

Caitlin Clark stole the show in the third quarter, demonstrating why she is the top collegiate women’s basketball player and is expected to be selected first overall in the WNBA draft the following year.

During the opening 2:30 of the third quarter, the superstar made three consecutive three-pointers, the first of which ranked her third all-time in Big Ten history for three-pointers made.

The legacy of Caitlin Clark

With her sixth, seventh, and eighth assists of the game, Clark made history as the first player in college basketball to achieve 3,000 points, 900 assists, and 800 rebounds. She also became the all-time leader in assists in Big Ten history with her 902nd career dime.

She outperformed Samantha Prahalis’ record of 902 points at Ohio State, with a total of 904 points. The West Des Moines athlete accomplished her 44th career game with 30 points or more and also recorded her eighth game with at least 35 points and 10 assists. In the previous 25 seasons, the teams in Division I have played a total of 10 games like this.
